Project Vision


Achieving the comprehensive modernization of the faculties of education in keeping with international scientific, and professional developments while taking into consideration the characteristics of the Egyptian society in general and the environmental specifics of each faculty in particular. This is based systemically on total quality as an entry point to improvement.


Project Objectives

  • Creating an environment conducive to development and based on a new vision for the faculties of education that drives their mission and conceptual framework.
  • Reforming the entire teacher preparation system with its related sub- systems and connecting reform with training and technology.
  • Professional development of faculty members, their assistants, and leaders.
  • Improving the physical resources including labs and workshops in the faculties of education.
  • Adopting a self-driven reform approach by the faculties of education.
  • Assuring the quality of performance in the faculties of education.
  • Linking between the project, the Ministry of Education and other enhancement projects.
  • Establishing a monitoring and evaluation system to measure impact.

Project Achievements


1- Creating an Environment Conducive to Development on the Basis of a Clear Vision and Mission

  • Issuing a document on the evaluation of the current status of the faculties of education and a study of teacher preparation systems in foreign countries.
  • Issuing a document on the vision, mission, and conceptual framework for the faculties of education.
  • Participation of more than 50% of faculty members in the activities of the project.
  • Holding meetings, seminars and workshops centrally and in the faculties of education.

2- Reform of the Teacher Preparation System

  • Developing a comprehensive model for the internal bylaws of the faculties of education.
  • Piloting it in four faculties of education.
  • Changing the teacher preparation system in most of the faculties of education.
  • Getting positive results from the review process of the pilot.
  • Describing the teacher preparation programs for the kindergarten teacher, 12 programs for the preparatory and secondary teachers, and five programs for the teacher’s preparation of elementary education.
  • Describing 1400 courses sequentially and complementarily  for all teacher preparation programs.
  • Reviewing programs by local and foreign experts.
  • Completing the description, review, and printing of the programs and submitting them to the universities and faculties of education for feedback and related finalization.
  • Finalizing the internal bylaw of the faculties of education and endorsing them by the national committee and the sector committee and the SCU as a pilot bylaw.
  • Issuing the ministerial decrees necessary to start implementing the new internal bylaw of the faculties of education starting from academic year 2005-2006.
  • Developing new foundations for post-graduate programs: diplomas, Masters, PhD and producing course description.

3- Professional Development for Faculty Members and their Teaching Assistants

  • Implementing professional development programs for faculty members and teaching assistants in the faculties of education on:
  1. Teaching the student-teacher
  2. Using technology in teaching
  3. English language
  4. Scientific research in education
  5. ICDL
  6. Performance evaluation
  7. ICT
  8. Practical teaching
  • Training about 60% of the academic staff members and their assistants in the first cycle.
  • More than 50% of the trainees obtained the ICDL certificate.

4- Upgrading the Infrastructure in the Faculties of Education

  • Assessing the actual needs of faculties of education for laboratory equipment.
  • Determining the specifications of labs and equipment by Egyptian and foreign experts.
  • Providing 26 faculties of education with labs and equipment for methodology, science, languages, and geography using computers.
  • Supplying labs with software for educational programs and lab experiments.
  • Training faculty members, teaching assistants, and technicians on the use of equipment and laboratories.
  • Monitoring the use of the teaching labs.

5- Ensuring the Quality Performance of Faculties of Education

  • Implementing QAAP projects for quality assurance and accreditation in 19 faculties of education to set up an internal system for quality and conduct a self-assessment study.

6- Adopting a College-Based Reform

  • Adopting the concept of college-based reform projects within the faculties of education through the implementation of the projects proposed by the faculties of education and funding 54 of those projects.
  • The result of the implementation of the 54 college-based reform projects are as follows:
  1. Developing the internal bylaws for 14 faculties of education.
  2. Developing 12 new programs for graduate studies.
  3. Developing 29 new programs for postgraduate studies.
  4. Developing the curriculum for 828 courses.
  5. Converting 167 courses to an electronic format.
  6. Implementing 13 training programs for e-learning.
  7. Establishing specialized units and centers.
  8. Establishing 53 laboratories equipped with computers.
  9. Developing the education practical training programs.

7.   Setting up Monitoring and Evaluation Systems to Measure Impact

  • Build different tools for monitoring and evaluation to address the different components of the project.
  •  Form teams to monitor lab usage, the competitive projects, and training programs.
  • Analyze the results of field monitoring and adjust implementation in the light of the results
  • Prepare reports on project progress
 
    The Project’s Vision
   

The FOEP aims at achieving a comprehensive development and modernization for the faculties of education that goes along with the international scientific, and professional developments and at the same time takes into consideration the characteristics of the Egyptian society in general and the characteristics of each faculty in particular with respect to its environment, in addition considering total quality as an approach for enhancement.

  • Reforming teacher preparation system and all its related secondary systems, in addition to connecting between this process of reformation and training and technology.

  • Enhancing the standard and quality of the infra structure in the faculties of education.
  • Assuring the quality of performance in the faculties of education.
  • Adopting self reformation approach in the faculties of education.
  • Making a link between the project’s activities, schools, and other projects of development.
